A legendary 1933 tea service designed by LUC LANEL for Christofle. Three pieces (Tray is not part of the set, but only utilized for photography staging).
The "Panneaux Plisses" (Pleated Panels) design is quintessential French Art Deco, owing its streamline moderne elements to the luxury ocean liners that Christofle provided many first class table settings for, particularly the Normandie. The curves accentuated by the crisp vertical lines bears a striking resemblance to the A. The tea set is in the collection of Musee Boulhiet Christofle, and included in Bevis Hillier's seminal reference "bible": "The World Of Art Deco, " for the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Also featured in Dominique Forrest's book: LANEL, LUC AND MARJOLAINE (Norma Editions, page 38), METALLUNST VON JUGENDSTIL ZUR MODERNE" and Hachette's "150 ANS D' ORFEVERIE CHRISTOFLE.
This set epitomizes the Art Moderne style. LANEL was featured at the 1925 Exposition Des Arts Decoratifs and the Paris World's Fair of 1937. The three piece set comprises a teapot, milk jug, and sugar pot, all stamped with the Christofle hallmark. CONDITION: Overall quite good, with signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Typical dings here and there, wood handle has wear.
The one glaring flaw is that the sugar bowl lacks one of the two wooden end pieces. From some angles, this is not visible but is noticeable in others. Please also check our other listings!
