Handsome c1870 4pc American Silver Plate Tea Set Hand Engraved. Presented is a fantastic quality antique American silver plate 4 piece tea set, dating to around the 1860s-1870s. The set is done in a handsome classical style, with intricately hand engraved floral and bright cut decoration. The handles are done in a sort of Neo-Classical squared off style, with ornate scrolls and flourishes and charming little gryphon masks at the bottoms.

The lids of the two pots as well as the sugar bowl have separately cast finials in the form of a putti or cherub reclining. Really a striking set, full of little eye-catching details. Teapot-- 10 inches tall, 9 1/2 inches from spout to handle.

Capacity of 7 cups (56 fluid ounces/1.7 liters). Coffee pot-- 11 inches tall, 10 inches from spout to handle. Capacity of 8 cups (64 fluid ounces/1.9 liters). Sugar bowl-- 8 1/4 inches tall, 7 1/4 inches from handle to handle. This set is in excellent overall condition.

The plating is in great shape, with only very minor wear. The two pots have a little divot on the lid where it has struck the handle when the lid is flipped up, but this is hard to notice and is a frequent occurrence on tea and coffee pots. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The total weight for the set is 3 kilograms or 6.6 pounds.
