This magnificent Classic Design American Britannia 6 piece Tea Service features a covered Hot Water Urn, with separate fuel lamp, Tea Pot with hinged cover, Coffee Pot with hinged cover, covered sugar, slop bowl and Creamer. The pieces all consist of complex and highly detailed satin and brite surfaces, machined raised texture, embossing, with Lion Heads and floral vines, chasing and punch work. There are blank monogramming plaques on the pieces in case someone wishes to do so. Because of the high quality and expensive workmanship in these pieces and the excellent condition, including the use of 4 sided handles and foot columns plus a raised cartouche anchoring the spigot to the Urn's body, (most tea sets produced had only one sheet handles and foot columns,) I feel that this was a special order from the factory.

On the bottom of each piece is stamped: Patent applied for/Meriden B (Britannia) Company/1877. The 1877 is probably the model number and not the year of manufacture. None are of this quality or design. I feel that this set was manufactured earlier than those in the catalogue. Dimensions: Tea Urn: 15 1/4 in.
