C1875 Christopher Dresser Inspired Silver Plated Tea Coffee Set. A very fine looking set of c1875 Modernist English silver plated Coffee Serving Set, with extra Teapot, that is inspired by the renowned Dr Christopher Dresser.
The set comprises of a small teapot, small coffee pot, a sugar bowl and cream jug. The Teapot has a reed covered handle. The coffee pot has a black ebony handle. Both have olive style finials. The jug and bowl are gilded on the inside.
The bases of the 4 pieces are stamped with the makers marks of Hukin & Heath and 6350 and 7 D. Condition is extremely good without any real wear or damage. The firm Hukin & Heath, active as manufacturing silversmiths and electroplaters, was established in Birmingham in 1855.
In 1875 the firm entered its mark in Birmingham Assay Office, while in 1879 the founders Jonathan Wilson Hukin and John Thomas Heath entered their mark in London Assay Office. The firm was active at Imperial Works, Great Charles Street, Birmingham and in the showrooms at 19 Charterhouse Street, London. Hukin retired in 1881 and in 1886 J. Heath continued the partnership with John Hartsghorne Middleton. In 1904 the business was converted into a limited liability company under the name Hukin & Heath Ltd.
The firm went out of business in 1953.
