This is a stylish Art Deco Silver Plate Four Piece Tea Set. The set comprises of a large 2 pint family teapot, a 2 pint hot water jug, a milk jug and a sugar bowl. The four pieces have oval bases, angular handles and panelled sides. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The tea set was made in Sheffield by world famous silversmiths and electroplaters Mappin & Webb as part of their Prince's Plate range and dates to around the 1920s/30s. One of the best known names in English silverware, the firm was originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr. In 1859 the company split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The firm remained in the Mappin family until it was merged with Walker & Hall and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.

Overall condition is good, with no dings or dents and just a few small patches of plate loss on the hot water jug after many years of polishing. There is a crease in the ebonised finial on the teapot but it remains perfectly functional. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description.

The teapot is 28cm / 11ins from spout to handle, 12.3cm / 4.8ins across the body and 14.3cm / 5.6ins high. The hot water jug is 19.2cm / 7.5ins from lip to handle, 7.5cm / 2.9ins across the body and 19cm / 7.5ins high. The milk jug is 12cm / 4.7ins from lip to handle, 6.3cm / 2.5ins across and 10.6cm / 4.2ins high. The sugar bowl is 16.5cm / 6.5ins from handle to handle, 9cm / 3.5ins across and 10.4cm / 4.1ins high.

All together the set weighs in at 1.47kg / 52oz. The pieces are stamped on the undersides of the bases with Mappin & Webb's Prince's Plate, London & Sheffield and a letter g in a shield, which is a date stamp placing the set somewhere around the mid 1920s to early 1930s.
