This antique 19th-century regency samovar/hot water urn is a stunning piece crafted by the renowned Michael Boulton. The piece is done in old Sheffield silverplate.
The intricate and detailed metalwork is really incredible. There is beautiful gadrooning on the underside. The twin handles are wrapped with acanthus leaves. And a pineapple adorns the top of the piece, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the era.
There is an engraving (1" tall) on the front of the piece that I believe reads, "FH, in a very ornate script. The urn would make an amazing addition to any collection of antique silverware, especially for those who appreciate the beauty of 19th-century, regency design. It is a great conversation piece that will add a touch of elegance to any room. Factory maker's stamps, two punched suns (stars) with a "J" in between. The piece dates to the 1810-20s. The firm based at Soho House, Birmingham were leading producers of this type of high quality ware using a process of fused silver and copper sandwiched sheets first developed and pioneered in Sheffield during the C18th. The piece shows wear and marks commiserate with its age. There are no dents to be found anywhere! The metal shows light wispy surface scratches to be expected with an item of this type and age.There are a few small areas with a bit of scratching. The two most noticeable areas are along the top exterior rim of the urn.
They can be seen the last two photos with arrows pointing at the blemishes. The interior shows light wear with a bit of discoloration that looks to be from coffee. It has been both well used and well loved!The spout functions properly with no leaking. The lid shows a few very slight bends along the interior edge.
This can be seen in the third to last photo. It does not affect the fitment. The lid fits snugly without too much pressure. The small interior lid shows moderate patination on the interior.
