1860s STARR & MARCUS ROMAN MEDALLION Silverplate Coffee Tea Set. Fine example of American Victorian silverplate, this set believed to date to just a few years after the end of the Civil War.

This set features'roman medallions'. Most Starr & Marcus silverplate was made for them by Gorham and John R. Wendt (which both produced Medallion patterns), but I think this set may have been produced by Reed & Barton. Reed & Barton introduced a pattern called Roman Medallion in 1868. Many roman medallion patterns look similar.

If exact pattern and date matter to you, please do your own research and you be the final judge. Each pieces also has a monogram on the reverse side from the medallion.

See example in photos below. THE SET: There are five pieces in this set.

A coffee pot with hinged lid, a teapot with hinged lid, a creamer (which looks like it might have a gold gilt interior), a lidded double handled sugar bowl, and an open bowl (perhaps a waste bowl). I don't think the waste had a lid, but not 100% sure. SIZE: The tallest pot is 10 1/2 inches. MARKS: On bases Starr & Marcus 2114 (likely a pattern number). Some have two additional little letters - G. CONDITION: Antique item over 140 years old! The silverplate is in outstanding condition with just very minor tarnish and a few little rubs of no consequence. Both the coffee pot and the teapot handles have an indentation and wear where the lid strikes the handle when the lid is in the open position. No major dents just a few typical tiny ones which I tried to capture in the photos. PLEASE SCAN DOWN TO VIEW THE MANY HIGHER DEFINITION CLOSE UP PHOTOS. Given the condition of this, you can have the same look for much less and own a rare and desirable'medallion' silverplate collectible as well.
