After two decades of existence, and significant expansion over that reasonably short period, the Meriden Britannia Company won first place at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia for its silver-plated wares. Some eight million potential customers frequented that exposition, and Meriden Britannia took full advantage of this unique opportunity. Due to this and other efforts, by the end of the 1870s, it had garnered a significant reputation.
Complete set in excellent pre-owned condition, featuring lion medallion accents on the paneled handles, solid legs, and hand-chased fern motifs adorning the elongated bodies. There is no monogram, there is no breaks or repairs. All interior remains clean while retaining most of its original finish. The exteriors are dent-free; however, the tops of the handles exhibit minor nicks from final impacts when fully opened.
While there are no cuts or major scratches, moderate signs of use and wear are present. Overall, the mirrored plating is bright, and the hinges and handles are sturdy, with insulators intact.
