Impressive Birmingham Silver Co. Full 7 Piece Silverplate Coffee and Tea Service

  

For your consideration we are pleased to offer an impressive silver on copper 7 piece full tea and coffee service by Birmingham Silver Company. Beginning production in 1957, forming from Goldfeder Silver Co. Birmingham continued production until the early 1980s.

Given the similarity to sets produced by Sol Goldfeder in the 1930s, this set was likely produced early in Birmingham's history. This service is LARGE and impressive, the pieces were well made and are quite heavy. Included in this set is an 11.5" coffee pot, 10.5" tea pot, 15" tilting Samovar with dedicated cradle and burner, 5.75" cream pitcher, 6.75" covered sugar bowl, 4.5" waste bowl, all on a matching 28" x 16.5" handled rectangular footed tray with floral and scalloped edging (all measurements are approximate and are taken to the highest or widest points). The set weighs almost 19 pounds. Structurally the set is fine, with no breakage, dents, or other damages found. The hinges all operate as intended, the burner appears to have never been lit and contains no fluid nor does it spark. The interiors all demonstrate a history of prior use, and the copper is showing through on the larger serving pieces...

Inherently common with these old Birmingham sets. The exterior plating shines up beautifully with a clear luster, however, having been stored for many years (perhaps improperly) very light surface pitting has began to form on all of the larger pieces, most notably to the coffee pot, as well as to the lid of the sugar bowl. This is not immediately noticeable and is incredibly difficult to photograph, however, it IS there. For the most part this appears as a "shimmer" on the plating, but in a few random spots the pitting has began to compromise through (again on the coffee pot) and shows as tiny dots of plate loss. Please review the photos as they are a descriptive part of the listing.
