DREW & SONS LUXURY WICKER & LEATHER ENGLISH TEA & PICNIC SET c. A wicker basket with leather handle and straps, the lid and the fall-front of the basket opening to the interior fitted with tea kettle with wicker-bound handle with alcohol burner and extra fuel container and numerous china cups and saucers, and many silver-plated or porcelain containers for food.

The white metal items in the basket are finished in porcelain enamel and the bare metal pieces are silver-plated. This set is marked Drew and Sons Piccadilly Circus, W. Drew and Sons were established in 1844 at 33-37 Piccadilly Circus, London.

They were at Piccadilly Circus until they moved in 1914. They made all their own goods to the highest quality and they enjoyed the patronage of Queen Victoria, the Royal Family and most of the Courts of Europe. It is in amazing condition for its age c. It has been used but very well kept. The wicker case is in mint or near-mint condition (ask for more photos).

The leather handle and straps are flexible and unbroken although the straps have some surface cracks. The porcelain enamel trays do not appear chipped although they do appear to have a few minor defects in the finish on the bottoms from when they were manufactured. The fall-front opening on the basket has a silver-plated tray on the inside of it, the tea kettle and ornate alcohol burner set are silver-plated, and the tea kettle has a wicker-wrapped handle with a tea infuser inside it and a screw-on lid and spout cover. The alcohol burner and the extra alcohol fuel container and ornate kettle stand are all silver-plated and marked Drew & Sons.

Instructions for use are on the inside of the wicker lid on a near-mint condition leather top liner (slight smudge from contact with the kettle lid). There are 2 large white porcelain enamel storage containers with removable silver-plated lids that double as serving trays, and 3 smaller removable silver-plated storage boxes with hinged lids and a small round porcelain enameled condiments or sugar or tea tin with a silver-plated lid.

There is a silver-plated Drew & Sons embossed matchbox. Original used condition as I bought it 50 years ago. Almost all metal parts marked DREW & SONS EN ROUTE PICCADILLY CIRCUS, W.

A beautiful silver-plated set for 4 persons, with 4 cups and 4 saucers, sugar or tea tin, 4 rectangular porcelain enamel plates, one wicker-wrapped glass drinks bottle, tea kettle and stand with alcohol burner and extra fuel container, matchbox, 4 cloth napkins and 12 extra original wicks for the burner. Exceptions: The 4 cups and saucers are not marked Drew and Sons so I make no representation that they are original. The saucers are marked John Maddock & Sons, England, Royal Vitreous and have a faint stamped mark on the bottom of the saucer that appears to be a crown. There are no marks on the cups. The screw-on top to the tea kettle has a slight shallow dent that appears to be easily removable (see photo or ask for more).

There is no cutlery with this set, although there is a small unplated rack with 8 slots for cutlery that can be seen in the photos. Some of the silver-plate is tarnished and some has black marks that appear to be a form of tarnish (ask for more photos). All the silver-plate other than the matchbox is in very good condition itself.

The matchbox plating on the top of the lid is partially deteriorated with a small bit of rust from being up against the metal frame inside the basket. The rust could be chemically removed or it could be replated if desired. The set was manufactured at 33 Piccadilly Circus, W. London before 1914 when Samuel Drew and Sons moved to premises on Regent Street, London, with the possible exception noted above. The size of the closed wicker basket is 17 L x 11 W x 12 H.

Including the handle, it is 2 higher, i. The weight is approximately 25 pounds. This is a classic and elegant piece, and the perfect addition to your classic car or trip to a Concours d'Elegance (or even a picnic in the park or tailgate party).

It is quite elegant and impressive. It has age and it shows it beautifully. You will look a long time before you find another in this condition at this price.
