C1790's English Georgian Old Sheffield Plate Samovar Coffee Tea or Hot Water Urn. Presented is a Georgian, Old Sheffield Plate samovar or hot beverage keeper with a beautifully hand-engraved globular urn on spider-legs over a ball-footed, small globe burner pedestal. The generously-sized urn has lions mask and ring side handles and an applied silver, rope-like border around the top. There's a lovely, bright cut engraving in a 7/8 inch band of silver around the center of the urn featuring lovely flowers, scrolls and fine texturing.

The rope border around the urn opening is repeated around the middle of the burner and along the outside rim of the lovely ball-footed stand. Condition: The condition of the samovar is very good for its age. We filled it with hot water and find that the urn and spigot works perfectly without leaking. There is surface wear to the silver plate in places, particularly around the threaded base of the burner, and also on the lions faces and a bit on the top hemisphere of the urn opposite the spout, but the copper showing through is not necessarily a detraction.

The burner has a few small dents in it that aren't noticeable without close scrutiny. The burner moves slightly after it is threaded onto the base, but it stays securely enough for normal use, and there used to be a bone or wooden ball on the spigot handle that is missing, but another bead could certainly be added easily, if you desired it. Dimensions: 13 1/4 inches tall by 7 1/2 inches wide to the lion's noses. The urn is 6 1/2 inches in diameter, and about 22 inches circumference tm.
